1017: Colin Stetson / Stian Westerhus / Erland DahlenOslo Jazz Festival

1017 is a new, high-voltage new trio consisting of colin stetson, stian westerhus, and erland dahlen. the band name refers to the incredible amount of energy (1017 trillion electronvolts) required to create a black hole. it can also refer to the immense energy generated on stage when three extraordinary musicians like stetson, westerhus and dahlen come together. this is music forged on the brink of collapse, where tones and sounds bend, split and transform into something painfully beautiful.
The trio balances raw power with emotional depth. Colin Stetson is widely known for his thunderous and shaking saxophone tones, and here he builds massive walls of sound together with Stian Westerhus’s masterful guitar playing. Erland Dahlen completes the trio with his distinctive percussive driveand rhythmic understanding, filling out these soundscapes.
1017 is unlike anything else out there. It’s not just another band, but a gravitational force of its own. Expect an intense live experience where sonic extremes meet emotional honesty and masterful songwriting.
This year, their long-awaited debut album will be released, followed by an extensive tour, including this concert at MUNCH during the Oslo Jazz Festival. Prepare to be sucked in!
