Natural Information SocietyOslo Jazz Festival

Since their formation in 2010, Natural Information Society has been a unique band when it comes to hypnotic and extended compositions that alternate between the meditative and the danceable. The band is led by Joshua Abrams, who wasone of the founders of The Roots, and has been a fixture on the Chicago scene since the 1990s. The quartet also consists of Lisa Alvarado on harmonium and electronics, Jason Stein on bass clarinet and Mikel Patrick Avery on drums.
Natural Information Society had a very good year in 2025, with a handful of releases, including the critically acclaimed album Preserverance Flow, as well as the collaborative project Totality, with their fellow spirits in Bitchin Bajas. Both of thesealbums clearly showcase the band's influences including Indian and Moroccan music, minimalism and spiritual jazz, which blend into a distinctive mix of organic, driving and uplifting music. Their music has aptly been labelled ‘ecstatic minimalism’.
The band has previously played at the Motvindfestivalen to enormous acclaim, and Joshua Abrams played an adventurous concert together with Andreas Røysum and Hamid Drake during Oslojazz 2025. We're therefore very much lookingforward to seeing Natural Information Society unfold at MUNCH.
