Member previewMonet – Wild and Tamed

Meet in the lobby at the meeting point, preferably 15 minutes before start.
Claude Monet (1840–1926) is best known as a leading artist of French Impressionism. Offering a rare insight into Monet’s landscape painting, the exhibition explores a central tension in his work: the relationship between his interpretations of “wild” nature and landscapes shaped by human intervention.
During the tour we will gain insight into Monet’s experiments with perception and the painted surface, and how he paints both rugged environments in France and Norway, and his cultivated garden in Giverny with its famous water lillies.
The exhibition brings together major loans from museums and private collections across Europe and the United States.
