In connection with Katharina Grosse’s exhibition Black Bed, we are pleased to present three films that offer different insights into the artistic practices of both Katharina Grosse and Edvard Munch. The program runs for a total of 50 minutes and will be shown throughout the museum’s opening hours.

Meet Katharina Grosse – the German artist known for breaking the frame of traditional painting. In her work, painting can appear anywhere, transforming nature, architecture, and especially the viewer into part of the artwork.
Grosse has drawn inspiration from Edvard Munch since her student days, notably his monumental painting The Sun(1912–13). In preparation for this exhibition, she spent time working in Munch’s studio at Ekely in Oslo, creating new works adding another dimension to the dialogue between the two artists.

The experimental documentary Katharina Grosse – The Process provides a rare, intimate insight into the artist's physical and uncompromising working method. Through close-ups and a sensuous soundscape, the film follows Grosse, dressed in protective gear and with a spray gun in hand, as she transforms canvases without sketches or precautions – where the act of painting itself becomes an intense, performative dance in real time.
