Oneohtrix Point Neverconcert
Appearing live for the first time in Norway, Oneohtrix Point Never brings 2025’s Tranquilizer to the stage, accompanied by Freeka Tet’s extraordinary live visuals.
Oneohtrix Point Never (aka Daniel Lopatin) has always merged the roles of musician, composer and producer. As well as eleven acclaimed albums, from the ‘hypnagogic pop’ of Rifts (2009) to his more recent releases on Warp Records, Brooklyn based Lopatin has composed music for films, notably his ongoing collaboration with the Safdie Brothers on Uncut Gems and Good Time (Best Soundtrack at Cannes Film Festival), and on Josh Safdie’s newest, highly acclaimed movie Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet.
Reflecting the breadth of his sonic influence, his collaborations span James Blake, Charli XCX, Iggy Pop, ANOHNI, David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails and The Weeknd. His work in contemporary art contexts includes a soundwork for an installation by Jeremy Deller at Tate Britain, and an exhibition of his music videos at UCLA’s Hammer Museum.
Lopatin’s music is underpinned by a strong conceptual approach, an eerie blend of influences from science fiction, warped pop and nostalgia for forgotten cultural artefacts. For Tranquilizer, Oneohtrix Point Never has assembled music from the wreckage of commercial sample CDs, salvaged from the Internet Archive, transforming it into a powerful, emotional new sound. As Lopatin says, Tranquilizer is ‘a record shaped by commercial audio construction kits from a bygone era – an index of cliches turned inside out.’
After the show (around 22.30), take the lift to the newly renovated MUNCH bar on the 13th floor. Soundtracked by futuristic electronic tunes from DJs Matt Karmil and Karima F, you can enjoy the magical view of the Oslo fjord.
