Assessment of Works

Do you own a work you believe may have been created by Edvard Munch, but which is not listed in the catalogue raisonné? Our expert committee examines works and evaluates whether they should be included in the catalogue raisonné of Edvard Munch’s oeuvre.

MUNCH maintains and manages the catalogue raisonné of Edvard Munch’s artistic production. The catalogue is not closed; it is continuously updated in collaboration with the museum’s expert committee. The committee comprises a broad group of specialists with many years of experience at the former Munch Museum, now MUNCH, and with Edvard Munch’s art.

The catalogue raisonné includes all verified, original works by the artist. For a work to be included, its authenticity must be established beyond reasonable doubt. Disputed works, where attribution remains uncertain, are not included.

MUNCH does not issue certificates of authenticity.

To enable the expert committee to process your enquiry as thoroughly as possible, we kindly ask you to complete the form as fully and accurately as you can. It may constitute a criminal offence to submit forged works, forged signatures, or falsified documents with the intent of presenting a work as authentic.

The museum reserves the right to use submitted information and photographs for research, documentation, in our internal database and for possible publication in the catalogue raisonné.

By submitting the form, you agree to MUNCH’s GDPR guidelines.

Submitted information about works and photographs will be examined and assessed to the best of our professional judgement. MUNCH reserves the right to decline to assess a work. If the museum chooses to assess a work, its conclusions will not be provided with written justification. Neither the museum nor its employees shall bear any financial liability or other responsibility for the consequences of assessments or statements relating to submitted works.

By submitting the form and accompanying documentation, you confirm that you understand and accept the following terms:

  • If the museum chooses to assess a work, its conclusions will not be provided with written justification.
  • Neither the museum nor its employees shall bear any financial liability or other responsibility for the consequences of assessments or statements relating to submitted works.
